Most of the time, the garage turns out to be much more than that; it usually is used as a storage place, workshop, after school band practicing stage, and, of course, storing your car. Whether you are using your garage for one or all of the above purposes, you need to do one thing in the first place and that is get it organized.

The better your garage is organized the more activities you can conduct in it without having to mishandle any of the existing tools and space.

Organizing Your Garage

In order to get your garage organized you will need a garage cabinet or more depending how many activities are being carried out in that space. Usually, the main activity that takes place in the garage is the workshop and men generally (not always) like to leave tools around to either finish the job next day or simply because that is their working space.

However, in order for more than one activity to take place in the garage or even for the simple reason that you want to find your tools next time you need them, I suggest to invest in a garage cabinet.

Garage cabinets come in all sizes, therefore, depending on how many tools you have, you will want to pick the appropriate size garage cabinet; I would suggest a slightly larger one even if you don’t need it now, you will in the future as men always enjoy adding to their toy collection.

Garage cabinets also come in different shapes in order to match your garage and to take up the least amount of space. My favorite type of cabinet is on wheels. It is extra slim and about 4 -5 feel tall; the reason behind it is that it can be used as a table when needed, fits all the tools and has space for others when they make their way home, as it can be moved wherever I need to perform some work, I don’t need to take tools out and return them each time I need something else.

Which Is The Right Garage Cabinet For You

In order to get the answer to that question you need to consider the following points: the size of your garage and where you are going to place the cabinet; the amount of tools you have and what is the rate you add tools to your collection as well as how often do you use your tools.

Garage cabinets are usually expensive but a great investment in any household, which can be passed from father to son for generations to come.

However, it is a light oak finish.

How can I paint this composite wood to give it a faux black wood finish? I want the faux grain appearance and I know I won’t get it if I just bought black paint and painted it with a normal paintbrush.
Here is the product –
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Storage-Cabinet-Alder/11061206

I’m not sure this would be strong enough to handle sanding….

Sure. But, without seeing the type of faux, I really can’t help.

What I’d do (the price is GREAT) is sand it lightly, prime it, and paint it the main color you want.

Then I’d go to PAINT store, NOT HOME DEPOT OR LOWE’S and buy a graining tool. They are easy to use, but you do need to practice. Ask the customer service person any questions you may have. If you want a "wood" grain, that’s the tool.

Here’s mine. Ranch style home, steps that come up to the front with a huge front porch that leads to a wrap around deck that would extend all the way around the house to the back where it would extend out to an even bigger deck where there would be my grilling area, pool, hot tub and picnic area. My kitchen would overlook the backyard, window above the sink(I love to look out the window when I was dishes). I would have bird feeders outside the window above the sink so I could watch the birds.
My kitchen would have an island in the center and it would have to be an eat in kitchen with off white cabinets and sky blue trim. My oven would be built into the wall and I would have a huge double sided sink. The laundry room would be adjacent to the kitchen. I would have a huge living room with a fireplace. I would have a pantry in the kitchen to store all canned and boxed foods. I would have 5 bedrooms. Mine would be the master bedroom with a bathroom(with a huge separate shower stall where water comes out from all sides of the wall along with the traditional shower head. Then I would have this huge jacuzzi style tub with jets and a window above the tub. Also a a huge vanity and a towel closet.
Then my child would have a master bedroom too any way he liked it. Then one room for my office ,two spare room for guests and a rec room for us.
I like lots of closet space and would have walk in closets in the bedrooms very huge ones. A linen closet in the hallway,a bathroom for guests, garage and huge storage area for my things adjacent to the house.

A person can dream can’t they. This is my dream home that exists in my mind.

One that cleans itself.

I am gutting my garage and making it into a playroom for my 1 and 3 year old boys. i am basically working with a blank palate. I love those cute cabinets with the cube storage. I saw this one at ikea and have basically decided to go with it. It is the dark wood and I lile dark wood for a boys space. I am trying to decide on a color that is fun but will look good with dark wood. I am driving myself crazy looking at HGTV all day. Any color ideas?

For boys, you can never go wrong with blue. As they are very little, you can try a powerful blue. I don’t think dark wood can contribute to child’s imagination as a lively color (blue, green, red, yellow).

Be careful with the cabinets and check their corners (some of them are really sharp, and rough).
You can also try adding some swinging horses and other kind of swings. Your boys will love them, and not just for the moment.
Also, you can add blackboards on your walls to provide them some drawing spaces.

Islands are a great feature in most any kitchen, adding both storage and counter space to what can be a cramped area just before meal time. In may cases, islands have taken the place of kitchen tables, but can be designed with more functionality than a simple table ever dreamed of having.

People will often congregate around an island if it’s there, so it ought to be high enough. With custom cabinet lines, you can have special cabinets built to do this, but if you want to stay in the semi custom price range, there are other options.

One of the things designers will do is to put wall cabinets right on the floor. Standard wall cabinet heights in semi-custom lines are usually from 12” to 42”. The taller ones are 36” and 42”, though some manufacturers might have 39” wall cabinets in their catalog as well.

The items often included in islands are sinks and waste receptacle pull outs. Both of these types of cabinets are base cabinets, but what folks often do is have a two-level island, with sink and counterspace on the lower level, then a higher level, with more countertop, where people can sit or stand. This is where wall cabinets come in…

First, you’ll need to figure out just how high you want the raised section to be. Some people are happy with regular countertop height (the top surface being somewhere in the 36″ range) but that’s a bit low for most. Hypothetically, let’s figure that you want it in the 40″ range. That means 36″ wall cabinets. “Wait,” you say. “That’s short!” But it’s not, and here’s why.

Base cabinets are 34 1/2″ high, but 4 1/2″ of that is toe kick. Many companies allow you to get the toe kick shipped loose, so essentially you have a 30″ high, 24″ deep cabinet. Wall cabinets don’t come with toe kicks as an option, but nothing says you can’t put one on. This would bump our short (allegedly) 36″ wall cabinet to 40 1/2″, which is just about the height at which we hypothetically decided to raise our countertop.

Toe kicks aren’t something you can use by themselves to hold up your wall cabinets in the island. They are just a 1/2″ piece of something; what they are depends on what you order, whether it’s black laminated particle board, solid maple, or anything else a cabinet manufacturer might offer. What you can do is simply order extra toe kicks with your kitchen, enough to go underneath these wall cabinets in the raised section of the island, and bring those wall cabinets up to the correct height with blocks of lumber. Attach the toe kicks at the proper depth, and you’re off and running.

One of the drawbacks of wall cabinets is that very few come with drawers. If you want compartments within the 36″, it’s possible by STACKING wall cabinets. We’re talking 36″, so there are a couple of ways to do it. Three 12″ high cabinets will work, two at 18″, a 24″ and a 12″… You get the idea. Whatever is most visually pleasing, keeping what will be most functional in mind, is your guide.

Speaking of functional, remember that an island should be worth the floor space it’s going to take up. Keep function in mind when designing your island, and you’ll be much happier with the end result.

Today’s swanky corporate offices owe a lot to designer office furniture. Stylish and elegant designer reception desks, tables, office chairs and modular filing cabinets certainly add charm to the office décor. A nicely decorated workplace has a lot to do with ones efficiency at work. You have a wide range of styles and colors to choose from. In addition, matching accessories are also available to give completeness to the interior decoration of your office.

We think about modern corporate office as a large hall full of cubicles. But this modern design concept has a greater consequence than it seems. Modular desks and furniture are not only impressive to look at but they also save storage space and thus cost effective. It is scientifically proved that monotonous interior sends negative vibes to the executives and thus decreases the level of production. That is why modern corporate houses opt for designer furnishing for their offices.

While decorating office you have to keep certain things in mind. The décor needs to be impressive and at the same time soothing so that employees can work in a relaxing atmosphere. You have a wide variety of designer tables, desks and comfortable office chairs to choose from. The objective is to ease off the work pressure to increase production level.

The reception area is the first place to get noticed by any one who enters your office. Carefully adorn the reception to impress your clients at the first glance. Wide varieties of reception desk are available in different shapes, colors and materials. Modular reception desks and counters come in varying heights and with straight, curved or angular shapes. A glass top counter with embossed metal band or plastic-aluminum strips on face of the reception desk gives a sleek touch to the overall room décor.

Set of office chairs come in wide variety, which include contemporary, ergonomic, executive chairs and many more. A conference room is essential for a corporate house. Keeping in mind the need of corporate world designer furniture companies have come up with swivel chairs, Italian designer chairs and conference-room-table seating chairs. While adorning executive lounge comfort and luxury are the main things to consider. Leather or microfiber chairs and sofas will fit in to this area vey well. Cheaper multipurpose chairs made of wood, metal or plastic can be set up any where whether it is the reception or workstation.

As you go inside the office, saving storage space is a necessity. Covered modular filing cabinets are there to solve the problem. A high density filing cabinet is able to store bulk of files, reports and hard copies of various other documents. The advantage of these cabinets is that you can add more modules to increase the storage capacity as your business grows. Go a step ahead to install fireproof file cabinets to secure your files and documents from any mishap. To manage the huge number of mails you receive everyday use a mailroom cabinet. Mailroom file cabinets are special cabinets with sorters and shelves.
