Trends in Kitchen Remodeling

Kitchen remodeling has been increasingly becoming popular to homeowners as this type of home improvement project not only enhances your family’s way of living but also adds considerably to the value of your New York home.  Many cringe at the thought of the amount of money to squeeze out from their budget to complete the project.  But don’t sweat, statistics and many real estate experts have proved that the return on your investment starts at an average 80% and above.

The kitchen has dethroned the living room by becoming the heart of every modern home.  And this has happened for a good reason as no other area in the home could be as functional from its basic purpose where people cook and eat, to becoming a gathering place for the family and even entertaining guests.  Through kitchen remodeling, you will not only be giving the area some good sprucing but maximizing functionality as well.

With that said, kitchen remodeling have had experienced a continual revolution throughout the decades.  To date, the trends are tending towards achieving that stylish and timeless look while providing high performance in state-of-the-art designs.

Cabinetry

Instead of plain storage solutions, more and more people are opting to create fine pieces of furniture out of their cabinets.  Luxurious woods like maple, birch and dark cherry are in demand.  But if budget is an issue, these can also do great as new faces so long as you like the existing design and location of the cabinets and the rest of the framework are still in great condition.

Countertops

Dark colored granite countertops are the ‘in’ thing today.  Aside from its aesthetic appeal, this material also poses as a durable choice.  Synthetic granite can get you to spend more on your kitchen remodeling project but the benefits are tempting with less maintenance needed in the long run.

Kitchen Island

Adding a kitchen island, big or small, helps provide more counter space and storage.  This type of project commonly integrates the popular preference of homeowners today which are shelves and cabinetry that not only allow more storage but ready access as well.

Lighting

Another element taking front and center in kitchen remodeling is lighting.  Other than brightening the room and creating an illusion of more space, lighting fixtures are now being used for decorative purposes.  Fixtures gaining popularity now are those that add warmth and style such as chandeliers, recess lighting, and sconces.

Kitchen Appliances

When shopping for your new dishwasher, oven and refrigerator to add into your kitchen remodeling, look for models in stainless steel or other high-end finishes.  Other than the elegance of their façade, they are also great in complementing with almost all color coordination.  For ovens, the trend is tending towards dual cooking with a stove top accompanied by a double oven which is best for holiday get-togethers.

Hardware Elements

Subdued metal finishes for your hardware elements such as cabinet knobs, faucets, and other trim would be great addition to your trendy kitchen remodeling.  With faucets, hands-free electronic models are increasingly becoming a favorite.

white (the most common being new antique white) painted/vinyl contour doors with horizontal handles on the doors and long handles on the drawers, (stainless steel is definitely the most popular at the moment, but black nickel chrome is also up there). metal laminated kickrails (stainless steel or aluminum), dark (black or close too) granite tops. wall ovens are also far more popular than under bench or free standing models at the moment. lots of drawers, less normal cupboard space. rows of L.E.D down lights. there has been a bit of a resurgence of breaky bars and t bars too.

I answer by Italian , concerning the Modern style
kitchens are inspired by minimalist models, all smooth, clean, simple and very organized. Dark colors in combination with light colors, wood, lacquer, stainless steel stones.
The most ‘trendy’ have the central island (work station) and behind a closet / pantry

Stay away from the latest trends and go for the classic designs. Trends only last for a short time and then they are out of date.

Thats a virtual room designer: Click the kitchen option and design your kitchen online. It has new wall colors, flooring options and even cabinet colors too… its really helpful. From experience go with what you like, classic white cabinet are always in style… a charming hardwood floor and keep it trendy and stylish with kitchen accessories like hand towels, vases, glass jars with peppers in them, fun kitchen utensils…. even add color to your plain jane coffee pot… get a red one or a blue one.. instead of black or white… Changing out accessories to keep it up to date is cheaper than remodeling ever few years! Just my opinion! good luck!

Plan the kitchen around the theme of your home.

You may wish to opt for the new composite countertops that are stain resistant, yet simulate the more expensive (and heavier) marble or granite countertop.

In larger kitchens lighting needs to be more functional, with areas such as cupboards and drawers well lit.

Flooring in the kitchen is essential for a well designed room.
