Easy cheap desk ideas under $30?
I have one of those really cheap desks that you get at office max and it’s falling apart and I have a few ideas on how to make a desk but I don’t know if it would work. My first idea is to just use a shelve as a desk but I need the width to be at least 18 inches wide and and 3 and a half feet long but I don’t know where to buy a shelf this big and can I just use a piece of wood or would the smaller brackets not hold it up. Another idea is hanging a bookcase on the wall sideways or getting those little storage cubes and hanging like 3 or 4 to make a desk. Another idea I have is to hang 3 or 4 of those cheap plastic wastebaskets to the wall so the bottom is attached to the wall and then attach a peice of wood to it. My final idea is to get two file cabinets and then put a peice of wood on top. Any ideas for a desk or orginazation will be appreciated and any websites or pictures that you think can help me thank you.
Use a sheet of plywood (around $10) and some cinder blocks (around $1 each) Lowes sells these items, and they will cut the plywood to size.
My son just made a desk with two saw horses and a hollow-core door. The thing cost him 35 bucks to make.

you can get a small table that looks like a miniature of the huge plastic ones for like $50 maybe someone has them cheaper or on sale but i know the work really well they weigh next to nothing and because of their size the are easy to store (they fold up like the big ones too)

Hi there,
Your idea of using two (short) file cabinets is a good one.
We made a lot of computer stations in control rooms using the same method.
You can buy a hollow core door (one that does not have the hole drilled out for the knob) to use for a sturdy desktop.
These doors come in several widths so you can pick the one you need. You also can upgrade by purchasing a drawer that installs under the desktop.
The main thing is that the completed desk will be sturdy, have plenty of storage for files and will be large enough.
When no longer needed or if you just want to move the desk it comes apart easily.
Hope this helps,
Al
