Is it okay to mix laminate cabinets with wood cabinets?
I have an eat in kitchen that is stuck in the 1960s, and I never eat in it. So I want to add some more cabinets to bring in some storage. I also want to get rid of my laminate cabinets, but I would only replace the doors. My main question is, how do I get them to match with the wood cabinets I would be putting in?
It is a little hard to answer this because I don't know what your laminates look like but let's just assume they are simple.
Some of the upscale homes are mixing countertop materials and types of cabinetry within the room. Can you prime your laminates and then paint them? Possible adding moulding to them for interest and texture? Use the same hardware for both the wood and laminates to tie them together.
Instead of installing new cabinets for storage could you use furniture pieces instead? A great armoire could house your extra dishes or a built in bench under a window could flip open to store extra canned goods. Brainstorm on ways to create storage without cabinetry.
This is a challenge but you can do it!
